Description: America's longest-running humor magazine, besides Time, has not been content to merely notice the snags in society's fabric after the fact. We have always been at the forefront of change and innovation. MAD has affected our culture and history in such an all-encompassing and fundamental way that it is sometimes easy to overlook our awesome influence.
Submission Needs: Looking for writers who are clever, offbeat, and most importantly, funny.
Guidelines: Articles: Send us a paragraph or two explaining the premise of your article with 3 or 4 examples of how you intend to carry it through, describing the action and visual content of each example. One-page gags: Two to eight panel cartoon continuities in the style and tradition of MAD. Submit via email.
Payment: Pays $400 minimum per page on acceptance.

Reader's Digest -
We pay $300 for true, never-before-published stories we print in Life in These United States, All in a Day's Work, Humor in Uniform or Virtual Hilarity. We pay $100 for previously published or an original item we print in Laughter, the Best Medicine; in Quotable Quotes; or as a short item used at the end of an article. Should be no more than 100 words or 1000 characters, become our property upon publication and payment.
Stitches -
Description: A medical humour magazine.
Submission Needs: Articles with a medical slant are of particular interest, but we also run a lot of material that isn’t medical. The only real criterion is that it must be funny.
Word Length: We have used stories as short as 20 words and as long as 3,000, but definitely prefer shorter pieces (brevity being the soul of wit), so anything over 1,000 or so words would have to be exceptionally good to be accepted.
Payment: Our standard rates are 35 cents (Canadian) per word payable on publication.
Rights: First North American serial rights, plus the right to place the article on our Web site.

Description: That's because The Door Magazine, at its most basic, is serious. Beneath the brilliant humor, the wicked satire, the jaw-dropping interviews, the witty bon mots, we've got an actual purpose for putting out the magazine.
Submission Needs: We love hearing from freelance writers for articles, interviews or even a cartoon.
Payment: we pay $50 for each published 'toon that meets the above criteria.

The Funny Times -
Description: The Funny Times is a liberal monthly humor review. We only publish thought-provoking cartoons and funny stories about everyday life and politics. Our humor is poignant but not mean-spirited, sexist, or boring. Our politics annoy most Republicans. In addition, there are humor columns by laugh-masters such as Rita Rudner and Charles Grodin. We have regular features like News of the World and Harper's Index.
Guidelines: Cartoons should be scanable or good quality photocopies. Dec. holiday material must be mailed by Sept. All subs must have SASE. No faxed or e-mailed subs. Pick 5-10 favorites. In cover letter, tell where you've been published.
Submission Needs: Only cartoon and funny stories with following topics: politics, news, relationships, food, technology, pets, work, death, environmental issues, business, religion, seasonal events.
Word Length: Stories: 500-700 words.
Pay: $25-$40 for cartoons based on reproduced size, $60 for stories. For either cartoons or stories, will provide complimentary Funny Times subscription and will swap website links.
Rights: We buy one-time reproduction rights, do not require exclusives, all other rights stay with copyright holder.
