Biggerboat Magazine, The -
Description: Their slogan is: "All Content, No Form." Has art, articles, fiction, quotes, blogs, reviews, humor and poetry.
Submission Needs: Articles on any topic, quality short fiction, opinion pieces, reviews of books or music, poetry and humor.
Guidelines: Visit site to get a sense of style. We accept full submissions and queries. Send submissions in Microsoft Word (.DOC) or Rich Text Format (.RTF) or pasted into body of email.
Word Length: Articles: 500 words min. Fiction: 1500 words min. Average of 3 articles, 2 poems and one fiction piece per quarter.

Capper's -
Description: A biweekly tabloid publication that emphasizes family and home life in the rural Midwest.
Guidelines: No simultaneous submissions. Query for novel length manuscripts only. No electronic subs.
Fiction: Query first, describe plot, characters. No profanity, violence sex or alcohol use. Double-spaced, numbered pages, word count, readable fonts, no italics or scripts.
Photography: Color: 35 mm color slides, transparencies or sharp color prints. Include caption material. Black and white considered. 1-2 cartoon per issue.
Jokes: 5-10 jokes in each issue.
Word Length: Fiction: 12,000-25,000 words.( 7,500 words min., 50,000 words max.)

Description: Cosmos is a general interest mag about a range of topics. Its concerns are ideas, particularly those ideas that involve, or are driven by, science and technology.

Faultline -
Description: Faultline is a literary journal from The University of California, Irvine. It is published annually in the spring, and features the work of emerging and established writers from the U.S. and abroad.
Guidelines: Submissions are only read between Sept. 15 to Feb.15. Simultaneous submissions are acceptable if noted as such. Include a cover letter with name, mailing and email address, title, SASE. Don't put name and address on manuscript.
Submissions Needs: Poetry, fiction, creative nonfiction, art.

Description: The magazine seeks lively, comprehensive articles covering politics, personalities, issues and management.
Word Length: Articles range in length from 200-word news items to feature articles of 2,500 to 4,000 words.
Payment: The magazine's pay scale for material from outside writers ranges from $50 for briefs to $1,000 or more for full-length feature articles. Story proposals are welcomed; they should be accompanied by writing samples.

Description: Orchid celebrates stories and the art of storytelling. We publish two issues per year with fiction, interviews on the craft of fiction and articles examining the role of short stories as literature.

Description: A twice yearly publication from the Dep't of English at the University of Washington.

Submission Needs: Fiction, poetry, retrospectives on established writers, essays, dialogues, creative nonfiction, interior art that can be reproduced in color or black/white. No mixed genres.

World Policy Journal -
Description: In addition to policy articles at the core of the magazine, World Policy Journal also publishes historical and cultural essays, book reviews, profiles, and reportage. Policy articles should be no more that 4,500 words in length. Book reviews should convey a strong point of view and should run to about 3,000 works. Profile essays should be about 3,000 words. 1st-person reporting from regions or on subjects not widely covered in the general media 2,500 words. All submissions must be in hard copy.

Antietam Review, The - Description: A literary and photography magazine published annually by the Washington County Arts Council.Submission Needs: short fiction, poems, black-and-white photographs that have not been published previously. We prefer short stories, but will consider a novel excerpt if it works as an independent piece. We accept creative nonfiction.
Guidelines: We consider material from Sept. 1 to Feb. 1 each year. Stories must be available on disc and hard copy. SASE.

Description: CutBank is Montana's premier literary journal from the University of Montana, published twice yearly.
Guidelines: Deadline for spring issue is Nov. 15, April 15 for fall issue. SASE. Manuscripts typed, paginated, name on each page, paper clips. Let us know if a piece has been submitted previously.
Submission Needs: Interested in art, poetry, fiction by well-known or previously unpublished authors.
Word Length: Fiction should be only 1 story at a time, up to 40 pages. Poets may submit up to 4 poems. Artists/photographers may submit copies of up to 5 works at a time.

Description: We are a blurring of genres between poetry and prose, lyric and reportage, essay and manifesto.

Put contact info in attachment and on letter. Convert footnotes into endnotes. Use double dash instead of em dash. Send CDs through the mail.

Word Length: 15 double-spaced pages max for prose. Poetry 10 pages max and can be single-spaced.

Ontario Review, The -
Description: Founded in 1974, Ontario Review is one of the longest-lived literary journals today. Conceived of as a North American Journal of the Arts, it was intended to bridge what Joyce Carol Oates and Raymond J. Smith, Americans teaching in Canada at the time, felt to be a widening gap between the two literary/artistic cultures.

Tulane Review, The -
Description: The Tulane Review is a biannual, national literary journal seeking quality poetry, prose and artwork for its Spring 2003 publication. Each submission is read by a review board. Accepted pieces are nominated by the board and then chosen by the editor. A $100 prize will be awarded to one outstanding piece in each category as determined by a qualified judge.
Guidelines: We are a print only publication and do not return manuscripts. Mail manuscript to address below with a cover letter and a SASE. There is a $2 submission fee per literary work. For art work: submission fee is $15/4 pieces, $2 for each additional piece. The submission deadline for the Spring 2003 edition is February 21, 2003.
