Carve Magazine -
Description: Carve Magazine is a bimonthly online magazine publishing literary fiction. We publish 10-12 short stories every edition.
Guidelines: double space, number pages, title on every page. Cover sheet with name, title, bio. Previously unpublished. Simultaneous submissions OK.
Submission Needs: Short stories only, no poetry.
Word Count: up to 8,000 words.
Rights: We retain all publication rights for six months and one time rights in our annual anthology. After publication, rights (except anthology rights) revert to author.
The Canadian Writer’s Journal Magazine -
Description: Canadian Writer's Journal is a digest-size magazine for writers emphasizing short "how-to" articles which convey easily understood information useful to both apprentice and professional writers. we must carry a substantial Canadian content.
Guidelines: Writers may query, but unsolicited manuscripts welcome. S.A.S.E. When submitting outside Canada, International Reply Coupons (IRCs) necessary.
Tight, clear writing essential. Shorter is better. Any subject related to writing. Be specific and precise. Author's experience and achievements given preference. Content and writing style will be primary considerations. Preference to article submitted electronically.
Submission Needs: Opinion pieces on issues affecting writers and publishers are sought. Humorous and seasonal items accepted. Three to four book reviews in most issues.
Reviews of books published in Canada given preference. Length 250-500 words. Fiction is published only through our semi-annual short fiction contests. Deadlines are September 30th and March 31st. S.A.S.E.
Poetry must be unpublished. Payment $2.00-$5.00, depending on length. S.A.S.E. Runs 4-6 pages of poetry per issue. Query by email. Send S.A.S.E and hard copy only after acceptance. Please put the word Query in the subject line.

Ploughshares -
Description: Published three times a year: mixed issues of poetry and fiction in the spring and winter and a fiction issue in the fall, with each guest-edited by a different writer of prominence, usually one whose early work was published in the journal.
Guidelines: Ploughshares welcomes unsolicited submissions of fiction and poetry. We consider manuscripts from August 1 to March 31 (postmark dates).
Payment: is upon publication: $25/printed page, $50 minimum per title, $250 maximum per author, with two copies of the issue and a one-year subscription.

Reflection's Edge -
Description: Reflection's Edge features marginalized genre fiction.
Guidelines: We accept simultaneous subs but we must be told if piece is accepted elsewhere.
Fiction: Put in body of email, no attachments. Put name, title, genre. length at top. Single spaced (1 space after period or colon). Blank line between paragraphs, no indent. HTML tags (italics) OK. Short bio (100 words) with links to published works. No racist, excessive/unnecessary violence or objectionable material.
Nonfiction: Inquire first with summary/outline of article, resume, writing sample, want payment or nonpayment.
Submission Needs: We specialize in sci-fi, horror, westerns, adventure, magical realism, mystery, erotica (no porn). We accept fantasy if not in an established world such as Tolkien or Ann Rice.
Nonfiction requires articles on writers' improvement for resources section, preferably by established authors. No life stories or personal pieces.
Word Length: Fiction: 500 - 10,000 words.
Payment: Nonfiction: $150.00 flat fee. No payment for nonfeatured pieces.
Rights: First electronic rights and permanent archival rights. Author retains all other rights, specifically for republication in print or in anthologies.

Tickled By Thunder -
Description: A fiction magazine that has helped writers get published since 1990. Caters to beginning/intermediate writers of fiction, poetry and articles. Published quarterly for 1,000 readers. Subscribers can enter nine contests free every year (or every four issues).
Underground Voices -
Description: Month Online Magazine seeks articles on hard-hitting issues like mental health, drugs, crime and addiction.
Guidelines: Reprints & simultaneous subs okay. Multiple subs, no. E-sub your submissions after reading the entire submissions area. No hard copy subs accepted.
Payment: Once we have a reasonable subscriber-base, we will pay authors at pro rates (.05 cents a word (US)). After the story "earns out" it's "advance," it then receives "royalties" by the same formula. This will happen as soon as is financially possible.
Rights: perpetual and exclusive web-based e-rights.
Guidelines: We publish essays, interviews, fiction, and poetry. Do not submit work by e-mail or fax. Submissions should be typed, double-spaced, and accompanied by a self-addressed, stamped envelope. (Poems may be single-spaced.) Your work will not be returned without sufficient postage, and we cannot respond unless a return envelope is provided. Do not send your only copy. Do not submit work or queries by e-mail or fax. Submissions received this way will not be acknowledged.
Payment: We pay from $300 to $1,250 for essays & interviews, $300 to $750 for fiction, and $50 to $250 for poetry, the amount being determined by length and quality.
Rights: We purchase one-time rights. All other rights revert to the author upon publication.

Anything published in our magazine is open to criticism through our Reaction (letters) section.
